Isaac “KingBoss93” Vasquez is an online poker professional from the United States who made it to the WSOP Main Event final table in 2016. He has also earned a reputation as a powerful poker player online and on TV, and his current goal is to make it to the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas.
It is a truth highly unlikely to be believed that a 20-year-old kid from New York can play poker for a living. But that’s what Isaac “KingBoss93” Vasquez, a.k.a. the unstoppable 6-0 pro player did. In this interview, Isaac tells us everything you need to know about poker, from his family’s story of how he started out to his rise to the top.
Two months later, Isaac KingBoss 93 Vasquez still hasn’t found the breakthrough after finishing second in the PokerStars Pennsyl-Mania event. The 31-year-old from Reading, Pennsylvania, was so close to the title and desperate for another chance. When PokerStars announced the Pennsylvania Online Poker Spring Championships (PASCOOP) in April and May, Vazquez thought it was time for KingBoss to shine. He felt so good about the event that he even tweeted on PokerStars that he would win the title. The 3rd. May KingBoss did just that, winning the Main Event with a $300,000 guarantee. Vazquez got the biggest share, $46,410. Honestly, the feeling is amazing and a few hours before my birthday on the 4th. May’s victory is almost unreal, he told USPoker. I was still thinking about that second place finish in Pennsylvania last month. I expected such a result, and the fact that it came with a win in the main event upset me. Looking back on the tournament, Vasquez points to one hand. Just before the start of the second and final day of play, he raised with Pocketqueens and raised the ante. The player next to him went all-in and didn’t get much more than Vazquez’s initial raise. But the next player also went all-in to get more. The phone call won’t cripple me, says Vasquez, who works as a pickup artist in his spare time in addition to playing poker. I called, and my opponents had pocket kings and pocket tens in their hands. As he fought his way to the final table, Vazquez sat on the balcony of his apartment. In his final hand, his K♠6♠ held up when he got another six on the board. I called on the last hand and when he stayed put, I jumped up and screamed. A few crude words. – I’m sure the upstairs neighbors heard it. The life of an online poker player
For this poker player, sitting at virtual tables is a regular activity. Mr. Vasquez appreciates the fact that he can legally play online poker in his home state. I think online poker in Pennsylvania is great, and I was waiting for a regulated site, he said. I was happy when PokerStars decided to come in 2019, and now other sites [partypoker US Network skins Borgata Poker and BetMGM] are coming to the state. That sounds promising. Isaac Vasquez from Reading, PA has won the PokerStars PASCOOP 2021 Main Event. What’s his poker routine? Vasquez likes to be alone when he plays. A big movie and television fan, Vasquez turns on a movie or series to entertain himself a bit. Some days he even participates in a poker stream by playing himself. Outside of poker, Mr. Vasquez loves music and is a big sports fan. He enjoys basketball, football, and baseball and supports the Portland Trailblazers, Atlanta Falcons, and New York Yankees. Like many poker players on the regulated markets, Vasquez only plays part-time, but spends a lot of time at the tables. If he’s not at a home game, he’s participating in an online tournament. Sometimes Vazquez does both: he plays live and participates in a tournament on his phone at the same time. His poker routine usually consists of playing in the evenings and on weekends. He likes to play tournaments with buy-ins of $50 or more, as well as cash games in the $1/$2 to $2/$5 range. I also like playing the big guarantees because it helps me focus, he said.
Largest bankroll, ready for more
Now that Vasquez has a nice score in poker, what does he plan to do with his winnings? I’m going to put money in the market to build my portfolio, he says. I can definitely afford to keep playing poker, and my mom will probably get something too. Vazquez loves poker and looks forward to playing more with this win. Internet gambling in the Keystone State is a popular pastime and has certainly paid off recently. I feel good, and the fact that it’s legal and regulated is a big plus, he says.
