The push for online casino legalization has been growing in New York. But before the state can vote on it, lawmakers have to decide how many licenses should be given out, and they’re now asking Secretary of State Cesar Perales who oversees gaming and horse racing to come up with a plan.

The “best casinos near me” is a law that has been passed recently, which would allow the state to issue casino licenses. However, there are some people who believe this shouldn’t happen because it would create too much competition and make the casinos lose money.

NY Lawmakers Call for Issue of Casino Licenses

Several New York legislators have expressed their desire for the state to speed up the process of granting downstate casino licenses. The politicians, who have the support of local casino employees and labor groups, want the state to grant the three available commercial gambling licenses in the NYC area this year.

The long-awaited debut of mobile sports betting in the state’s gambling sector occurred recently. The state is expected to profit greatly from digitization and the increase of land-based property since it will be able to produce large money for the local economy. Money is in short supply as a result of the exceptional circumstance.

Two people are in pole position.

Gary Pretlow, the state’s Assembly Committee on Gaming and Wagering Chairman, said that granting full gaming casino licenses in downstate New York is now his top priority. He even mentions Resorts World New York City by Genting New York LLC and MGM Resorts’ Empire State Casino as possible front-runners for the full-casino licenses.

Currently, only the Lottery Division’s slot-style video lottery terminal games are authorized to be offered at the two gaming locations. The venues are good candidates, according to him, since they currently operate in the state and have the space to add live table games. It’s estimated that converting them into full-fledged casinos would bring in US$750 million for the state’s coffers.

Senate Gambling Committee Chair Joseph Addabbo supports the concept of awarding the three downstate casinos this year. Mr. Addabbo also favors the two aforementioned gambling establishments becoming full-fledged casinos, citing their operators’ excellent track records and community backing. According to him, the third license should go to a property in Westchester, Rockland, or Putnam counties, which encompasses NYC, Long Island, and the northern suburbs.

The downstate casino licensing embargo was enacted to allow upstate commercial casinos to establish themselves in the local gaming market. Clyde Barrow, a political science professor who researches casinos, claims that downstate New York has the majority of the state’s population. According to him, upstate casinos are at risk of shutting owing to the fact that everyone is moving downstate.

Rif Outcomes

The New York State Gaming Commission issued a Request for Information for bidders interested in obtaining one of the available licenses by the end of 2021. The commission stated in its report that it had received more than 30 bids, including proposals from at least eight casino operators, including MGM Resorts and Genting New York LLC, which were previously named.

The creation of the first regulated online sports betting market is current news from the Empire State’s gaming sector. On Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 9 a.m., it officially began. On four gambling platforms, local gamblers may now make bets on their favorite athletic events without leaving the comfort of their homes. Five more are on the way.
