The World College Championship heads into its second week, and will be played entirely online. The action will be live streamed on PokerStars.tv and will be available for free on the official World Poker Tour website. Over one hundred schools from all over the world will be battling for a $50,000 scholarship, which will be awarded to the winner of the event.

The World College Poker Tour (WCPT) is set to kick off on Friday with the launch of the 8-week Red Cow Open, a tournament series that features a $200,000 buy-in, and features some of poker’s biggest names. The WCPT is sponsored by Paddy Power, the Irish bookmaker, and is set to span a total of 18 events throughout the world over the course of a year.

The World College Poker Tour (WCPT) is returning for its third year and the organizers are counting on the poker community to grow the tour and turn it into an official online poker tour.

This weekend, college students all around the globe will take a break from their studies to spend some time at the online poker tables. The main event of the World College Poker (WCP) begins on July 24 at 9 p.m. (EST).

However, for those interested in participating, the registration deadline is July 22. PokerStars.net is hosting a free event for college, university, and vocational students of all poker skill levels. 

The site is a free-to-play platform for the business, and the tournament offers some substantial rewards to the victors.

World College Poker: What to Expect

From luminaries like Doyle Brunson to online poker sensations like Jason Koon, some of the greatest names in poker started their careers playing in college.

The WCP was established to provide a competitive platform for tomorrow’s stars. All students aged 18 and above with a valid student ID are eligible to participate.

What is at stake? Winners may expect to receive a variety of large rewards, including:

  • a $9,000 European Poker Tour (EPT) package from PokerStars

Getting a registration

The WCP field is still open to players. Registration for the event ends at midnight on Thursday (PST). On July 24, the first round will begin, with 300 participants progressing.

On July 31, these participants will return to play down to 45 players, with their chip stacks carrying over to the following round. Round three begins on August 7th, with all participants getting PokerStars goodie bags and playing down to the last six players.

The date for the final table has yet to be set. However, the remaining six players will fight live or online to choose a winner. All of the finalists will get a bespoke gaming chair.
